Root canal treatment is a procedure used to treat infection at the centre of a tooth (the root canal system). Root canal treatment is also called endodontics. This treatment involves your dental cleaning, shaping and filling the entire root canal of your tooth. Once the bacteria are removed, the root canal is filled and the tooth is sealed with a filling or crown.
Root canal treatment is necessary when the pulp within the tooth becomes infected. The pulp consists of nerve tissue and blood vessels. This can become infected either through trauma or through decay. We can use endodontics to remove the pulp before the infection causes the tooth becoming beyond repair.
